You’ve harvested all your summer vegetables, and now it’s time to give your garden a good rest over the winter. In this workshop, led by Ryan Nassichuk, we’ll be learning how to put our garden to bed and protect our soil from the harsh winter elements using mulch and cover crops.

Come out and get your hands dirty with other gardeners at the Queen Mary Community Garden on Saturday September 25th (Contact Us for more details).  This garden is HUGE, and we need your help getting it ready for winter.  We’ll be mulching, working with cover crops and caring for edible perennials. No experience or tools necessary (bring your enthusiasm and dress for the weather… fingers crossed for sunshine!).

We’ve been working hard on the Community Orchard, and our little trees are growing well. This site is a narrow municipal Right of Way running between two private properties that we’re turning into a food producing Orchard! We will be putting the finishing touches on the Orchard before the fall season. With a big load of mulch, we will be able to mark out the paths, and protect the trees. Hopefully we’ll get to plant in our new garden beds too!
